Amelia Macapia is a researcher with interests in ocean governance, particularly related to offshore development, pollution, and seabed mining. She is a Master of Public Administration candidate at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.

Before Columbia, she conducted marine bioacoustics research at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. There, she worked across two laboratories studying how marine life use sound to interact with their environment and one another. Her research examined the impacts of offshore wind on commercially important fisheries, fish call detection in coral reef soundscapes, and bottlenose dolphin whistle classification.

In a time of rapid environmental change, she believes science communication has never been more important. She serves on the Editorial Board of the researcher-run MIT Science Policy Review, is a contributor to Oceanus Magazine, and her writing has also appeared through the American Geophysical Union and Science News Explores.
